Eti Saaga launches "Me the Labourer"

Thursday, July 23, 2009

A book of poetry by Eti Saaga will be launched at the Feleti Barstow Public Library tomorrow evening.

The launch of 'Me the Laborer' is set for 5:30 pm and is free and open to the public.

Saaga credits his good friend and fellow poet Rev. Ruperake Petaia for saving the collection of poems.  He had given three copies of the manuscript and given one to his son, one to a niece and could not remember who he gave the third one to.  Luckily he had entrusted that copy to Ruperake and his good friend had held on to it all these years.

As head of the Malua Printing Press, Ruperake also ensured that the collection made it to print. 'Me the Laborer' is the title of a poem that Saaga wrote straight out of high school while working as a road builder after he turned down a government scholarship to New Zealand.

Eti has just returned from a successful book launch at the Madd Art Gallery in Apia, Samoa last month.  He says “I was so pleased to finally get this out. It’s been over 17 years since I put pen to paper and started on this unique adventure. "

Sa’aga’s book launch will include select readings from the book by the author, live music, copies of the book for sale, and refreshments.
